Preconditioned Krylov subspace methods for solving nonsymmetric matrices from CFD applications

چکیده
We conduct an experimental study on the behavior of several preconditioned iterative methods to solve nonsymmetric matrices arising from computational ̄uid dynamics (CFD) applications. The preconditioned iterative methods consist of Krylov subspace accelerators and a powerful general purpose multilevel block ILU (BILUM) preconditioner. The BILUM preconditioner and an enhanced version of it are slightly modi®ed versions of the originally proposed preconditioners. They will be used in combination with dierent Krylov subspace methods. We choose to test three popular transpose-free Krylov subspace methods: BiCGSTAB, GMRES and TFQMR. Numerical experiments, using several sets of test matrices arising from various relevant CFD applications, are reported. Ó 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved. Solving large systems arising from fractional models by preconditioned methods
This study develops and analyzes preconditioned Krylov subspace methods to solve linear systems arising from discretization of the time-independent space-fractional models. First, we apply shifted Grunwald formulas to obtain a stable finite difference approximation to fractional advection-diffusion equations. Then, we employee two preconditioned iterative methods, namely, the preconditioned gen...
متن کاملNew variants of the global Krylov type methods for linear systems with multiple right-hand sides arising in elliptic PDEs
In this paper, we present new variants of global bi-conjugate gradient (Gl-BiCG) and global bi-conjugate residual (Gl-BiCR) methods for solving nonsymmetric linear systems with multiple right-hand sides. These methods are based on global oblique projections of the initial residual onto a matrix Krylov subspace. It is shown that these new algorithms converge faster and more smoothly than the Gl-...
متن کاملNonsymmetric Preconditioner Updates in Newton-Krylov Methods for Nonlinear Systems
Newton-Krylov methods, combination of Newton-like methods and Krylov subspace methods for solving the Newton equations, often need adequate preconditioning in order to be successful. Approximations of the Jacobian matrices are required to form preconditioners and this step is very often the dominant cost of Newton-Krylov methods. Therefore, working with preconditioners destroys in principle the...
متن کاملSpectral Analysis of Nonsymmetric Quasi-Toeplitz matrices with Applications to Preconditioned Multistep Formulas
The eigenvalue spectrum of a class of nonsymmetric preconditioned matrices arising in time-dependent partial differential equations is analyzed and discussed. The matrices generated by the underlying numerical integrators are small rank perturbations of block Toeplitz matrices; circulant-like preconditioned based on the former are considered. The eigenvalue distribution of the preconditioned ma...
متن کاملOn choice of preconditioner for minimum residual methods for nonsymmetric matrices
Existing convergence bounds for Krylov subspace methods such as GMRES for nonsymmetric linear systems give little mathematical guidance for the choice of preconditioner. Here, we establish a desirable mathematical property of a preconditioner which guarantees that convergence of a minimum residual method will essentially depend only on the eigenvalues of the preconditioned system, as is true in...
